Appointments

What can I expect during my appointment?

During your appointment, your provider will conduct a complete evaluation of your symptoms and if clinically appropriate, prescribe medications or treatments as needed, which will be sent to the pharmacy of your choice the same day. If necessary, your provider may refer you out to a local lab for testing, or to an appropriate specialist.

Can my Heartburn or Acid Reflux issues be assessed and treated via a video appointment from home?

Yes. Circle Medical providers are board certified primary care providers who specialize either internal, general or family medicine making them qualified to assess and treat Heartburn, and Acid Reflux, as well as countless other medical conditions as clinically appropriate.

Where will my prescriptions be sent?

Your provider can send your prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy the same day as your visit.

Can Circle Medical primary care providers provide treatment for other medical problems besides GERD issues?

What if I need in-person testing or examinations?

If any in-person care is needed, such as bloodwork, vaccinations, or other testing, our providers are able to send the appropriate request to a nearby lab. Results will be integrated with our HIPAA-compliant mobile app so that patients have access to all of their medical records in one secure place.

How long are the appointments?

The first intake appointment is 30 minutes. Follow-up appointments are 20 minutes each.

Billing

How do I know how much my specific appointment will cost?

For those with insurance, your final out-of-pocket costs are determined by your insurance. Once we submit the claim, insurance companies will pay for their portiona portion of the appointment and pass on any remaining costs to you as noted in your policy. Once we know what this cost is, we will update you with an invoice within the app. If you are uninsured, you will be able to receive a cash-pay estimate in our mobile application.

When do I get charged for my appointment?

For those with insurance, it typically takes 1-3 weeks for the insurance claim to be processed. Once processed, we’ll send you an invoice within the app with any remaining costs. You can then opt to pay through the app, or we will automatically charge the payment card on file after 48 hours of sending you the invoice.

For those without insurance (or with out of network insurance), we will send you the invoice 1-2 days after your appointment is completed. You can then opt to pay through the app, or we will automatically charge the payment card on file after 48 hours of sending you the invoice.

What insurance do you accept?

We accept over 1,500+ insurance plans. We cover most of the major PPO insurance companies (payors) across the United States. The best way to confirm coverage of your insurance plan is to begin booking an appointment on our website or via our mobile app. During the booking process, you’ll be prompted to enter your insurance information for a real-time verification of your insurance plan.

We do not accept Medicaid or Medi-Cal at this time.

What if I am having issues verifying my insurance plan coverage?

The best way to confirm your insurance plan coverage is to call the Member Services phone number on the back of your insurance card. If needed, you can reference our Tax ID#: 474883537 and our NPI: 1134596091. Once you are able to confirm your coverage and your primary care copay costs, you can use the in-app chat to message our team with the information. We’ll then follow up with confirmation.

What is the total cost of diagnosis and treatment?

Your per-appointment costs are set by your insurance plan. If the costs seem high, you may be on a high deductible health plan (HDHP). This means that you have an annual out-of-pocket amount that you must pay on healthcare in a given year before your insurance plan will cover more of your per-appointment costs. 

If you are on an HDHP and have confirmed your insurance information in our mobile app, your remaining deductible for the year will be displayed on the “Book Appointment” page. Note that this amount may be outdated if you have had recent insurance claims processed.

Tips for managing heartburn and acid reflux:

If you experience heartburn or acid reflux, following these tips may help to manage your symptoms:

Avoid trigger foods and drinks — Certain foods and drinks can exacerbate the symptoms of GERD. These may include spicy foods, fatty foods, caffeine, alcohol and any foods with high acidity. Take note of your trigger foods and make sure to avoid them whenever possible.

Eat smaller meals and chew thoroughly — Large meals can sometimes cause acid reflux or heartburn symptoms. Eating smaller meals and chewing your food thoroughly will help your digestion and reduce the risk of symptoms.

Avoid meals before bed — Lying down right after eating makes it easier for stomach acid to flow back through the esophagus. Giving your body ample time to digest will help reduce your symptoms at night.

Raise the head of your bed — Try to elevate the head of your bed by six to nine inches to help reduce acid reflux and heartburn symptoms. Gravity can help to keep the acid down.

Maintain a healthy weight — Excess weight can put pressure on your abdomen and increase the likelihood of acid reflux.

Quit smoking — Smoking can have a myriad of negative health effects, including the weakening of your lower esophageal sphincter.

Manage stress — Stress can sometimes worsen the symptoms of acid reflux. Try relaxing activities to manage stress. You can double down by making some calming tea with ingredients like ginger or peppermint that help to soothe the stomach.

Avoid tight clothing — Tight-fitting clothing can put pressure on your abdomen and increase the risk of acid reflux.

Sleep on your left side — Sleeping on your left can sometimes help reduce acid reflux symptoms. Try sleeping on your left side if you usually sleep a different way.
