You're not alone

IBS can be difficult to talk about. But it shouldn't be. Despite being a relatively common condition, most people don't seek treatment. Many find it uncomfortable to discuss, or due to the unpredictable nature of IBS, are afraid they won't be able to get the help they need.

IBS has many names, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Irritable Colon, Spastic Colon, and Nervous Stomach. All of these describe a syndrome that does not yet have a discernible direct cause but can commonly be triggered by hormonal changes, medication side effects, stress, anxiety, or depression.

IBS can only be effectively treated by a medical professional. And the good news is that despite its mysterious nature, many effective treatments can help sufferers go back to living comfortable, healthy lives without the stress of IBS.

What causes IBS?

The exact causes of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are not fully understood. However, there are several factors that are believed to contribute to the development of IBS. These factors include:

Altered gastrointestinal motility

People with IBS may have abnormal contractions of the muscles in their intestines, either stronger and longer-lasting contractions (spasms) or weaker and less efficient contractions, leading to changes in bowel movements.

Increased sensitivity to pain

Individuals with IBS may have a heightened sensitivity to pain in their digestive system. This can result in discomfort or pain that is perceived more intensely than in individuals without IBS.

Intestinal inflammation

Some people with IBS may have a low-grade inflammation in their intestines, which can contribute to symptoms such as abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits.

Changes in gut microbiota

The balance of bacteria and other microorganisms in the gut, known as the gut microbiota, may be disrupted in people with IBS. This imbalance could potentially influence digestive function and lead to symptoms.

Food sensitivities

Certain foods or beverages may trigger or worsen symptoms in individuals with IBS. Common triggers include fatty foods, spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, and artificial sweeteners.

Psychological factors

Stress, anxiety, and other psychological factors can influence the functioning of the digestive system. People with IBS may experience an exacerbation of symptoms during periods of increased stress or emotional turmoil.

It's important to note that IBS is a complex condition, and the interplay of these factors can vary from person to person. If you suspect you have IBS or are experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms, it's best to consult with your primary care provider for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management strategies.

I’m a busy working parent. I love that I was able to get an appointment quickly with availability in the evening hours. The NP who evaluated me was thorough on intake/history and I was able to get much needed care. I’m excited that they will be able to provide my primary, preventative care too!

Tomas

Circle Medical has been an incredibly smooth and convenient way to receive medical care. The providers have been incredibly understanding and supportive, have been helpful in helping me find solutions to problems, and go the extra mile to ensure I’ve received quality care. All of this comes with the convenience of being wherever I have an internet connection from the comfort of home. I would highly recommend to anyone.

As far as I’m concerned, this is the future of healthcare. I’ve transitioned all of my primary care to Circle Medical as well as my ADHD management. I’m amazed at the weekend and off-hour options, which are a lifesaver for a busy professional like myself. I recommend this service to anyone who is looking to get a PCP or evaluated for ADHD. Your customer service is top-notch and I’ve never had an issue with insurance or my prescriptions. I’m so glad I found your company!

Lenny

Didn’t feel like my last doctor's appointments. My provider felt genuinely compassionate about helping me manage my life obstacles with my ADHD. Was skeptical at first but so glad I made the decision. Super affordable for the quality of care.

Justin

My provider was amazing. She made me feel comfortable and was super friendly. We found a course of treatment that has truly changed my life.

It was accessible, period. I could get an appointment that was not months out like most local doctors. Gave me records that documented my history. Made it possible to receive care online/virtually.

Rosemary

Good service, easy to use, knowledge providers. Much more helpful than I expected from a "virtual" service.

Nicole

Provider is amazing and so are the staff coordinators.

Riley

I get to decide my provider. Tons of appointments that are days away instead of weeks. Well-designed app. Medical/appointment notes are all in one location instead of spread around or buried. Everything got done without any bumps or pushback or bs. I've never *ever* had such a painless experience.

Kate

I can take the appointment anywhere. I couldn’t find a psychiatrist nearby and resorted to virtual. Circle Medical is a doctor in your pocket and I love it. I love my provider too.

Amanda

Modern day convenience. Great experience.

Amelia

Circle Medical has been absolutely amazing to me. I have been a patient at Circle Medical for about 7 months now and the experience has just been awesome. From day 1 I have been welcomed with open arms. I do telehealth visits right in the comfort of my own home, how convenient is that, and for me it's perfect because I am a pediatric nurse and I'm always having a busy day / schedule. So that worked out perfect. I was even given the opportunity to pick my own provider and I must say I picked the absolute best provider in the world she Is awesome so sweet and comforting and motivating.

Jovanni

Appointments were easy to book and so convenient. It’s taken months for me to try and find good healthcare in my rural area. This has been a way for me to find quality care that works with my schedule.

Raelynn

It was extremely easy to sign-up and utilize the app. From the first time I ever heard of the app, I was in an appt within several hours and paired with an AMAZING provider that is very sensitive to my needs and concerns.

Frequently Asked

Appointments

What can I expect during my appointment?

During your appointment, your provider will conduct a complete evaluation of your symptoms and if clinically appropriate, prescribe medications or treatments as needed, which will be sent to the pharmacy of your choice the same day. If necessary, your provider may refer you out to a local lab for testing, or to an appropriate specialist.

Can my IBS issues be assessed and treated via a video appointment from home?

Yes. Circle Medical providers are board certified primary care providers who specialize either internal, general or family medicine making them qualified to assess and treat IBS as well as countless other medical conditions as clinically appropriate.

Where will my prescriptions be sent?

Your provider can send your prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy the same day as your visit.

Can Circle Medical primary care providers provide treatment for other medical problems besides IBS issues?

Yes. At Circle Medical, all of our primary care providers are board-certified and are qualified to assess, diagnose and treat a wide array of health conditions. See a full list here.

General

What if I need in-person testing or examinations?

If any in-person care is needed, such as bloodwork, vaccinations, or other testing, our providers are able to send the appropriate request to a nearby lab. Results will be integrated with our HIPAA-compliant mobile app so that patients have access to all of their medical records in one secure place.

Where do you provide services?

To see if you are located within our service area, begin booking an appointment to enter your zip code.

Note: As a patient, you must be physically present within the state your provider is actively licensed to practice medicine in at the time of service.

How long are the appointments?

The first intake appointment is 30 minutes. Follow-up appointments are 20 minutes each.

Billing

How do I know how much my specific appointment will cost?

For those with insurance, your final out-of-pocket costs are determined by your insurance. Once we submit the claim, insurance companies will pay for their portiona portion of the appointment and pass on any remaining costs to you as noted in your policy. Once we know what this cost is, we will update you with an invoice within the app. If you are uninsured, you will be able to receive a cash-pay estimate in our mobile application.

When do I get charged for my appointment?

For those with insurance, it typically takes 1-3 weeks for the insurance claim to be processed. Once processed, we’ll send you an invoice within the app with any remaining costs. You can then opt to pay through the app, or we will automatically charge the payment card on file after 48 hours of sending you the invoice.

For those without insurance (or with out of network insurance), we will send you the invoice 1-2 days after your appointment is completed. You can then opt to pay through the app, or we will automatically charge the payment card on file after 48 hours of sending you the invoice.

Insurance

What insurance do you accept?

We accept over 1,500+ insurance plans. We cover most of the major PPO insurance companies (payors) across the United States. The best way to confirm coverage of your insurance plan is to begin booking an appointment on our website or via our mobile app. During the booking process, you’ll be prompted to enter your insurance information for a real-time verification of your insurance plan.

We do not accept Medicaid or Medi-Cal at this time.

What if I am having issues verifying my insurance plan coverage?

The best way to confirm your insurance plan coverage is to call the Member Services phone number on the back of your insurance card. If needed, you can reference our Tax ID#: 474883537 and our NPI: 1134596091. Once you are able to confirm your coverage and your primary care copay costs, you can use the in-app chat to message our team with the information. We’ll then follow up with confirmation.

What is the total cost of diagnosis and treatment?

Your per-appointment costs are set by your insurance plan. If the costs seem high, you may be on a high deductible health plan (HDHP). This means that you have an annual out-of-pocket amount that you must pay on healthcare in a given year before your insurance plan will cover more of your per-appointment costs.

If you are on an HDHP and have confirmed your insurance information in our mobile app, your remaining deductible for the year will be displayed on the “Book Appointment” page. Note that this amount may be outdated if you have had recent insurance claims processed.
