What makes you passionate about being a healthcare provider? I am passionate about being a healthcare provider because I believe this is one of the most rewarding professions. I have always had a strong desire to help those in need. I have a sense of meaningful purpose, being able to provide not only care, but knowledge to others in a way that they truly understand what is going on with their health and feeling empowered to better care for themselves. Being a healthcare provider, I get to work as a team with my patients and their families, to come up with the best evidence based treatment modalities for the best possible outcomes. In your opinion, what should be the role of a primary care provider for a patient, taking into account both physical health and behavioral health needs? A primary care provider should serve as an immensely knowledgeable practitioner, that looks at the patient as a “whole-being” instead of a disease process. I believe that healthcare should always include the observation of a patient’s mental/behavioral health, and if they are in the right state of mind to receive and perceive information regarding their physical well-being. The reason being, if an individual is not mentally healthy, they may not be able to transpose the information as effectively as they should, to bring about a physical change.
