ADHD Treatment with Circle Medical

Our exceptionally qualified team of empathetic doctors and providers has only one goal: helping you find a way to live your healthiest life in a way that actually works for you.

Appointment

In your initial appointment, your Circle Medical provider will get to know each other, and complete a thorough review of your symptoms and medical history. They will also assist you with getting a copy of your medical records.

Diagnosis is usually completed during the first appointment.

Plan

During the second appointment, your provider will work with you to create a customized ADHD treatment plan that is tailored exclusively for you.

Because the health and safety of our patients is our first priority, you will be asked to either complete or provide records of a recent Annual Wellness Exam before starting treatment.

Treatment

After you start your treatment plan, you will have regular face-to-face video check-ins with your provider to ensure the plan is working to help you effectively manage your ADHD symptoms, and that your lifestyle continues to improve, or to make adjustments as is necessary.

"Prior to Circle Medical, I struggled for months as I visited doctor after doctor for a diagnosis, just to be ignored and misdiagnosed because none of them had researched ADD in women. Then, I found Circle, and was diagnosed and treated within days. The treatment worked, and my life has improved drastically.

— Heather C.

"I am very happy with my treatment and my provider has been really great. I came to Circle from a different service, and Circle is far better at patient follow-up and working with me so that I can manage my ADHD in the best way possible. I am very happy with the communication with Circle Medical."

— Gregory W.

Frequently Asked Questions

ADHD Treatment

Can I get diagnosed with ADHD/ADD through Circle?

Yes, our providers are able to provide a comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of ADHD/ADD and write the appropriate prescriptions. If you are diagnosed with ADHD/ADD by one of our providers, we are able to provide ongoing treatment in the form of regular check-ins and medication prescriptions.

Please note that booking and paying for a video appointment with one of our providers does not guarantee that you will be given a "confirmed" diagnosis. We encourage you to read through this entire FAQ before booking an appointment, to ensure that our practice is a good fit for you.

Who is a good fit for ADHD/ADD treatment through Circle?

Our goal as a primary care practice is to make behavioral healthcare more accessible and integrated with primary care. However, primary care has its limitations and this means that receiving behavioral health treatment through Circle Medical is not for everybody. Please read the following carefully to understand whether Circle Medical may be a good fit for you.

You are a good candidate for receiving a comprehensive ADHD assessment and/or ADHD treatment through Circle Medical if:

- You have never had an ADHD diagnosis before but have always suspected you may have mild to moderate ADHD
- You have had an ADHD diagnosis as a child but have not taken medication for it in months/years and are noticing the effects on your work and/or personal life
- You have a current ADHD diagnosis and are on a treatment plan with another practice, but would like to explore switching over your treatment to Circle Medical

Circle Medical is a primary care practice, which means that we are not able to treat more complex cases of ADHD/ADD. Circle is not a good fit for you if:

- You are regularly taking benzodiazepines for other treatment (such as Klonopin or Xanax)
- You are regularly taking opioids for other treatment
- You have a more complex mental health history that may require psychiatric expertise in order to treat safely (this can include recent hospitalizations related to mental health and/or having uncontrolled or unstable bipolar disorder)

What states do you operate in?

To see our list of currently available states, begin booking an appointment.

You must be currently residing in the state of treatment as well as have your primary pharmacy be in that same state in order to be a patient at our practice.

Requirements for Controlled Medication Follow-ups in New Jersey

New Jersey state regulations require that patients who have been prescribed a Schedule II controlled medication, such as Vyvanse, Adderall, and Ritalin, schedule an in-person appointment with their provider.

What changes are coming for New Jersey patients who take certain medications?
New Jersey state regulations require that patients prescribed a Schedule II controlled medication, such as Vyvanse, Adderall, and Ritalin, schedule an initial in-person appointment with their provider, and every three months thereafter.

How often do patients need to schedule an in-person appointment?
After the initial visit, patients may continue seeing their provider virtually, but they must have at least one in-person appointment every three months.

Where can these in-person appointments be held?
In-person appointments will soon be available at our locations in Marlton and Short Hills. You may also choose to see your provider at our locations in NY and PA, including our NYC clinic.

How will I be notified about available in-person appointments?
Once your provider has available in-person appointments, you will be notified via email.

Will my medications be sent to NJ if I am seen in NY or PA?
Circle Medical will be able to send your prescription to a New Jersey pharmacy, as long as it’s your current state of residence. The decision to fill your prescription will remain up to each individual pharmacy location and pharmacist on staff.

Are these changes applicable to all medications or only specified ones?
These requirements apply specifically to Schedule II controlled medications, such as Vyvanse, Adderall, and Ritalin. Non-controlled medications are not impacted.

What if my provider is not licensed in Philadelphia or New York, but I live near the border?
In-person appointments should be scheduled with a provider who holds a valid license in the state where the appointment is taking place. If your current provider is not licensed in a state you're closer to, you will need to be seen by a provider who is.

Are there any exceptions to these changes due to specific circumstances?
The new regulations are state-enforced, and are not at our discretion. We encourage a discussion with your provider for more clarity.

What happens if I miss an in-person appointment?
If you miss an in-person appointment, please contact the care team immediately to reschedule as your medication management may be affected.

If I have been virtually visiting my provider, can I continue to do so?
Yes, you can continue to see your provider virtually, but you must schedule at least one in-person appointment every three months as per the new regulations.

What if it's been over 3 months since I last saw my provider in person?
To comply with New Jersey state regulations, your next appointment will need to take place at one of our in-person locations.

What if my provider is not available for an in-person appointment and I’m due for one?
You must be seen in person by the provider who is prescribing your medication. If you book with a new provider due to availability issues, you must continue your care with that provider.

ADHD Providers

Am I seeing a psychiatrist through Circle?

Our ADHD providers are primary care providers (MD's/DO's, NP's, and PA's) who have received specialized training for ADHD intake. They are trained by psychiatrists to ensure a high standard of care, but they are not psychiatrists themselves.

Although it is a commonly accepted practice for many primary care providers to refer their patients to psychiatrists for ADHD diagnosis and treatment, primary care providers are actually also able to diagnose and treat mild to moderate forms of ADHD themselves. If you have mild to moderate ADHD, you can benefit from having your ADHD managed by your primary care provider at Circle while getting access to all of the general practitioner services you would find at your normal doctor's office.

More complex cases will require psychiatrists to diagnose. We encourage you to please read through this entire FAQ to make sure our practice is a good fit for your needs before you book a medical appointment with a provider.

Do I need to book my appointment with a doctor (MD or DO), or can I book my appointment with any provider (PA-C, NP, etc)?

You do not need to book your initial appointment with a doctor. You can book your appointment with any provider that we have available. Our providers are all trained in ADHD diagnosis and treatment. They all work closely together to make sure that we are providing the same excellent standard of care to all patients regardless of which provider you book your appointment with.

We have a 2 appointment process for our ADHD patients to ensure that we will be able to complete a thorough screening and diagnosis process.

How long are the appointments?

The first intake appointment is 30 minutes. Follow-up appointments are 20 minutes each.

Billing

What is the total cost of ADHD/ADD diagnosis and treatment?

Insured

$5 - $50 average copay* 1st appointment
$5 - $50 average copay* 2nd appointment

$10 - $100* total, with $5 - $50* monthly follow-ups once stable.

*Note: Your specific copay is dependent on your health insurance coverage. We typically see patients with copays of around $0-$50 per appointment, but this can be higher if you have a high-deductible plan and have not yet hit your deductible this year. To confirm your specific copay estimate, you can click to book an appointment and you will be asked to input your insurance information so that you can receive your cost estimate before confirming the appointment.

Our ability to estimate your costs is dependent on your healthcare insurance's database, so we do not guarantee that the estimate you see is the exact amount you will be billed. For the most accurate estimate of your per-appointment costs, we recommend calling the phone number on the back of your insurance card to ask your insurance plan what your primary care appointment costs are.

Uninsured

$149 1st appointment
$100 2nd appointment

$249 total, with $100 monthly follow-ups once stable.

Insurance

What insurance do you accept?

We contract with most PPO insurance plans. If you are a California Bay Area resident, we also work with a small number of HMO plans.

To verify if we work with your insurance, simply start booking an appointment online. You will be prompted to enter your insurance details and will receive eligibility results instantly as well as an estimate of your appointment cost prior to confirming your appointment.

Some PPO plans that we currently work with are:

Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, Health Net, Humana, and United Healthcare.

Plans that we cannot work with are:

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide care for patients who have Medi-Cal or Medicaid insurance. This is because we are not licensed Medi-Cal or Medicaid providers, so we are not able to provide care, even if these patients choose to pay cash instead of use their insurance. If you have Medi-Cal or Medicaid, please do not book an appointment with us, as we will be unable to provide care even if you do not enter your insurance information.

Other

What do I need to do to prepare for my first appointment? Do I need to submit medical records anywhere?

If you've been diagnosed with ADHD before and have your diagnosis paperwork available, you can email it to [email protected]. Be sure to use the same email address that you used to sign up when booking your appointment.

Note: This step is optional. After your first visit, we will facilitate getting your medical records from your previous provider.

If you haven't been diagnosed before, we are still able to diagnose and prescribe medication. You don't need to bring anything in particular to your first appointment. We use a 2 appointment process to diagnose ADHD so that our providers can learn about your medical history and symptoms from you on the first call, and then can send you requests for any specific medical history, ADHD tests/questionnaires, etc. before you have your second call.

Why am I required to have an Annual Wellness Exam in order to receive a controlled substance as part of my treatment plan?

Circle Medical always puts the health and safety of our patients first. For this reason, we require any patient that is going to receive a controlled substance as part of their treatment plan to either undergo an Annual Wellness Exam with a Circle Medical provider, or to submit the results of one that was conducted by a primary care provider. This enables us to ensure that we are minimizing any potential health risks for our patients.

What happens after I am prescribed?

After you are diagnosed, if you are prescribed medications, we will coordinate sending these prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy.

You may have a 2-week follow-up for treatment. Once your treatment plan is finalized, you will have monthly follow-up appointments to maintain treatment.

If you have questions at any time, please feel free to chat with your provider and care team via our secure app.

What type of appointment do I book if I am looking for an ADHD assessment?

All of our ADHD appointments have the same initial step: booking a video appointment. We accept patients who have had prior ADHD diagnoses as well as patients who have never been diagnosed with ADHD before. You may book your first video appointment with any of our providers to get started.

Please note that booking and completing an appointment does not guarantee that you will have a confirmed ADHD diagnosis and controlled substance prescription. Your provider has full authority to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for treatment, just like with a traditional doctor's office. Please read this FAQ in its entirety to make sure you are a good candidate for treatment through Circle Medical prior to booking your appointment.

Can I get diagnosed in my first appointment? How long does it take to have a complete diagnosis?

‍Most patients require two appointments for a complete diagnosis. The first appointment is needed to establish your medical history or any previous diagnoses you have had. After that appointment, your provider will request medical records from previous providers, send you a questionnaire to complete, and book you for a second appointment to complete the diagnosis and discuss your treatment plan.

Clinically appropriate treatment, tailored on a case-by-case basis.

We put patients first in every decision we make, and follow clinical guidelines based on evidence-based medicine to ensure patients get the most effective care possible.

How do I know if I need treatment or a prescription?

There are many ways to effectively treat adult ADHD, ranging from behavioral modification to various medications that have been proven effective in multiple clinical trials in reducing ADHD symptoms. Your provider will work with you to review the symptoms of ADHD you are experiencing and their severity and will review treatment options with you. If clinically appropriate, your provider may include prescriptions to clinically-approved ADHD medications as a part of your treatment plan.

Types of medications that may help to treat Adult ADHD

There are a number of medications available that have proven effective at reducing the symptoms of adult ADHD. One of the most common is mixed amphetamine salts, commonly known by the trade name Adderall, available in various dosage strengths and as instant-release (IR) or extended-release (XR) formulations. Other commonly used options include atomoxetine (Strattera), bupropion (Wellbutrin), and lisdexamfetamine dimesylate (Vyvanse).

If prescription medication is found to be a clinically appropriate part of your treatment plan, your provider will review options for treatment, as well as their potential risks and side effects, and work with you to ensure you find the right balance of symptom reduction and minimum effective dosage.

Don't take our word for it.

We treat over 50,000 patients every month. Here's what they have to say.

My provider is wonderful and so accomodating. I've been to psychs in the past that have been very rude and clearly wanted to get the visit over with ASAP, but she never rushes, she listens to me cite my complaints and praises about my current treatment plan, and then responds with true care.

Serena

Finding a good and reliable remote healthcare provider to diagnose and treat ADHD is extremely difficult. Circle Medical has made this process easy for me and I am thankful I chose Circle Medical.

Sarah

As someone who has ADHD, simply setting up an account on the site was so easy. You can tell that this was made with neurodivergent people in mind. Things are just SIMPLE.

Ryan

Appointment availability. I cannot get an in-person appointment in my city for 6 weeks. This app allowed me to connect with a medical professional the next day. (Same-day was available as well.) And professionalism. I felt that in my two appointments I was treated with respect, not judged, and I was able to express my issues and thoughts to someone who was actually listening.

Craig

As far as I’m concerned, this is the future of healthcare. I’ve transitioned all of my primary care to Circle Medical as well as my ADHD management. I’m amazed at the weekend and off-hour options, which are a lifesaver for a busy professional like myself. I recommend this service to anyone who is looking to get a PCP or evaluated for ADHD. Your customer service is top-notch and I’ve never had an issue with insurance or my prescriptions. I’m so glad I found your company!

Lenny

Very convenient. I was shocked that I could get inexpensive mental health services so quickly. Very pleased.

Keshawn

I could not believe that I got an appointment for ADHD within hours. I had a terrible time trying to get an appointment with the group my insurance recommended. The health practitioner is knowledgeable and kind, and I feel like I'm getting both good physical and psychological support.

Sierra

ADHD assessment was tailored to adult women, the expert gave nuanced additions and clarification to questions or statements. I feel much better-equipped to handle life and am making progress in ways that seemed impossible before.

Chandra

I love how well-informed and empathetic my PCP is. It has been the best psychiatric provider experience I have had thus far in my life, I trust her so much more than my previous providers.

Jan

This system, the efficiency, and care behind it is the best that I have come across. I have been uncomfortable addressing issues like ADD and ADHD as an adult, so I put this off for years. My provider has already helped in 2 sessions. I have to say, I am already feeling better simply taking the initial steps. A big thanks to this team!

Shane

It is so difficult to access mental health care services right now especially for ADHD, I have received immediate and responsive care that has already improved my quality of life, thank you.

Ash

I felt heard. I felt educated by the provider. There’s so much stigma and such a shortage of psychiatrists, I felt alone and judged, but Circle was different.

Debbie

Easy platform and scheduling, helpful especially when it’s hard to find mental health care.

Asa

I am very happy with their service, especially after bad experiences with other companies. My provider is very helpful, attentive and genuinely seems to care. Medicine orders are quick and they do what they promise.

Seymour

I love not having to wait before my appointment begins in the lobby and not having to drive there also saves time. It was also great when I had COVID, as I did not have to expose anyone and still could get medical help. I also got life changing diagnosis of ADHD through Circle Medical. I LOVE MY PROVIDER, she is amazing!

Mariana

I recommend Circle Medical because there’s no other app that actually just goes straight to the point in helping your needs; that being needing ADHD diagnosis or anything else that has to do with with your physical and mental health. There are no complications with speaking with the Circle Medical Team let alone any problems period.

Roxane

My provider has made all the difference. She honestly and genuinely goes out of her way to help me. As a person with serious ADHD all my life I found someone who makes the difference In how I feel. She always has my very best interest at heart. She’s an incredible person and I feel that she has empathy and believes in what she’s doing.

Crista

I put off my mental health for a long time. It took me a lot of courage just to click Book Appointment. It was so easy, the first appointment was great and constructive, The second was scheduled for 3 days later, and I got a treatment plan from my Mental Health Professional within hours.

Kyle

I rated you a 10 because firstly my experience was excellent, the provider was very professional and easy to talk to, and the medication she recommended seems to be working great!

Devin

The turnaround time to get an appointment and see a provider was so quick and easy; everything is setup with the neurodivergent brain in mind from the way the app is designed to appointment reminders and calendar syncing. My provider made me feel heard and she kept our appointment focused on the task at hand (so important for adhd minds!)
